The Newspaper Process

Here you will learn about our methods in the making of our newspaper.

~

1. We all come up with ideas for our newspaper. So we write a sheet with at least three ideas for each page topics, like Opinion, or Student Life. This helps the editors get ideas for what to put on their pages.

2. The editors have a meeting, and they determine the schedule of the entire production phase and what will go on their pages. Then, they begin to write assignment sheets, which will be given to the writers, and photographers.

3. The writers and photographers must complete their assignments and turn them in on the due dates. Most writers get at least two to three assignments.

4. The schedule follows exactly these steps:

  • The story assignments go out, this is the phase where writers/photographers learn about their requirements and where to find information.
  • There are three due dates for the story assignments to be turned in to the editors and the advisor, so they can correct it and give it back to the writer. The writer must in turn, correct it and save the newly fixed story in the computer files. The photographers must correctly size their photos and save it.
  • The editors then place the stories and photographs in their pages. Then the editors spend the next few days constructing their pages or fixing them. Then they must print out their pages to be checked by the executive editors and the adviser to make sure they are free of error.
  • Then final corrections are done on the pages. Then the pages are then saved in their final versions on a disc. The advisor will then send the disc to a company who will print the newspaper.
  • Then when the newspaper is printed, it is delivered back and everyone in the newspaper class help distribute it to classes in the school.
