GUILFORD HIGH SCHOOL
5620 Spring Creek Road
Dear Parents:
Our health education program has been designed and updated by local health educators and professionals with community and parent support over many years. Since 1986 it has been structured to meet the health education goals for learning as set by the State of Illinois. One semester of health education is mandated for every Illinois high school student.
Our program will enable your teenager to understand the physical development structure and functions of the human body; the need for a positive self-concept and self-responsibility; healthy family relationships and communication skills; stress management skills; the prevention and treatment of stress-related and infectious illnesses (including sexually transmitted diseases); first aid and CPR skills (with the opportunity to earn the American Red Cross Standard First Aid and Adult CPR certificates); healthy and responsible sexual development; and the prevention and treatment of alcohol and other drug abuse and dependency.
Sex education classes in this program will follow the mandates of the school code of the Illinois State Board of Education. All classes will be age appropriate, honor marriage, stress abstinence, discuss the risks of early and unhealthy sexual involvement, explain laws involving sexual involvement and teen parenting, as well as organizations and resource persons available to teens and young adults will also be discussed.
Please contact us at
654-4870, should you have any questions or concerns about our program. We will
assume it is acceptable for your teenager to participate in all of our health
education program unless you contact us. If any part of the program is not
desired, alternative assignments will be made with no penalty to the student.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Singletary, M Ed. (voice mail 3196)
Mr. Martinetti (voice mail 3134)
