Health A Guide To Wellness, Glencoe, 2003
Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Program, 2001
Education in Sexuality, MacMillan/McGraw-Hill, 1991
Units:
Mental and Emotional Health, Managing Stress, Mental and Emotional Problems, Red Cross CPR and First Aid, Understanding Medicines, Tobacco, Alcohol, Illegal Drugs, Human Growth and Reproduction, and Health Careers/Agencies.
Grades:
Grades are based on class assignments, homework, tests, an oral and typed report on a health career/agency, and the final exam. A point system is used with the following grading scale: 100%-90% = A, 89%-80% = B, 79%-70% = C, 69%-60% = D, 59%-0% = F. Students will keep track of their points using a “point sheet”.
Students who are failing or who are in danger of failing receive a progress report (midpoint) each quarter. The progress report is mailed to each parent.
Only the students with an excused absence will be allowed to make up missing work. Parents must call the attendance office (654-4870) by 2:00 pm the day of the absence.
The first and second time a student has an inexcused absence parent contact will be made by the teacher. Any subsequent inexcused absence will be handled by the office.
Students are expected to be in the classroom when the bell rings. If they
are late they need to obtain a tardy pass from the attendance office.
Classroom Rules:
1. Follow directions the first time they are given.
2. Be in your seat when the bell rings.
3. Bring your book, paper, pen/pencil, health folder, and “point sheet” to class everyday.
4. Use class time for health work. Do not write notes or work on other subjects.
5. During class discussion one person may talk at a time.
6. Keep hands and feet to yourself and use appropriate language.
7. Sharpen your pencil before class starts and throw away your garbage at the end of class when you leave. (I like to start teaching class when the bell rings and end class when the bell rings.)
