General INFO

Student Expectations

A good attendance record is of extreme importance to be successful in any endeavor. Please try to limit excused absences if at all possible and be sure to get to class on time (in assigned seat when the bell rings).

Students are expected to complete daily assignments. Although you will be given time to begin the assignment in class, most often students will need to complete assignments as homework in preparation for the start of the next day's class. Assignments must be completed and turned in on the day due.

Materials

1. All work should be done in pencil as mathematics often requires an eraser.

2. Notes should be kept in a special folder. A 3-ring binder or pocket folder is preferred. Tests and quizzes and other papers will also be kept in this binder.

3. All math students are expected to bring a calculator to class each day. (Students wishing to purchase a graphing calculator are encouraged to consider the TI-84+Silver Edition....see Calculator Link.)  There is also a FREE graphing calculator simulator available for you to download on your computer at this link.

Grades

Grades are based on the following scale: A - 90-100; B - 80 - 89; C - 70 - 79; D - 60 - 69; and E - 59 - 0. Tests, quizzes and special projects will count as approximately 70% of students' grades, while the remaining 30% will be daily assignments, class participation, and other classroom work. (The semester final will be 20% of the semester grade.)

Parent Expectations

Parents are expected to take an interest in their student. This can be in the form of making sure that your student has a time and place to complete daily homework, that you occasionally look over homework and tests, and that you review and sign the progress reports and tests which are sent home. Your observation of this work will help "encourage" and/or "enforce" that your son/daughter succeeds to the best of his/her ability. If a student has trouble with which you are unable to help, please arrange and attend an extra-help session after school....please do not just let things go.

School information is available on our school website as listed below:
Guilford High School website: guilford.rps205.com
Mr. Godtland's class website: guilford.rps205.com/godtland

You may bookmark these URL's for convenient reference throughout the school year. The class website includes each week's lesson plans, general class information, and also EACH student's progress report is posted periodically. (Access with student number ensures privacy.) Parents are able to verify assignments and check progress by accessing this class website. In addition students will receive in class a computer-generated progress report at midterm for you to review and sign. Please return the signed report ASAP each term.

Concerned and informed parents are a vital element in the education of young people. It is my sincere hope that these guidelines will help your child succeed in his/her math class this year.
